§ 25-31. Automatic fire sprinkler systems required.

  • (a)

    Automatic fire sprinkler systems shall be required in all new construction located in the City exceeding 10,000 square feet in floor area.

    (b)

    Automatic fire sprinkler systems shall be required in existing buildings when any new addition creates an aggregate floor area exceeding 10,000 square feet. The aggregate floor area consists of the existing building plus the new addition. The automatic fire sprinkler systems shall be required in the entire building once it exceeds 10,000 square feet in floor area.

    (c)

    Exceptions are as follows:

    (1)

    Agricultural barns and pole barns.

    (2)

    Airport hangars used for aircraft storage only not exceeding 10,000 square feet in floor area.

    (3)

    Residential single-family and multi-unit structures, four or less units.

    (d)

    Automatic fire sprinklers shall be installed, tested, inspected and maintained to the specifications of National Fire Protection Association Standards 13, 13D or 13R, whichever applies.
